'No discussion on IPL final being shifted from Chennai'

N Srinivasan confirmed that the final will be held in Chennai.Putting to rest speculation about a move to shift the Indian Premier League eliminator and the final from Chennai to an alternate venue to ensure a full house, BCCI president N Srinivasan said there has been no discussion on the matter.

"I'm hearing it for the first time from you (the reporters). There is no such discussion," said N Srinivasan.

While most of the other venues have attracted capacity crowd, Chennai has been an aberration with as many as 12,000 seats going empty because clearance from the city planning department, for want of building approval, is still awaited.

But Srinivasan said that the loss arising from those three stands is not a matter of concern.

"See, the whole season is almost over. And I don't think that is an issue. The loss arising from it is not an issue, because as far as Chennai is concerned, today is the last (league) match," said Srinivasan.

Meanwhile, when asked if the BCCI would allow its players to participate in the Sri Lanka Premier League, Srinivasan clarified that if the Islanders make a proposal, the Indian board would examine it.

"Last time around there were specific reasons why the BCCI could not support the tournament. And we informed the Sri Lankan Board in that time.

"This time if there are any proposals made, we will examine it. And we have to be satisfied that doubts and problems we have last time will not continue," explained the BCCI president.

Elaborating on the problems that arose last time, Srinivasan said: "Primarily, the contract had generally been given. I don't want to go into the details. But, obviously, we have to examine whether the situation continues."

Kevon cooper ruled out of IPL V

Kevon Cooper will be out for 4-5 weeks with a fractured kneeRajasthan Royals were dealt a major blow when their Trinidadian all-rounder, Kevon Cooper was ruled out for the rest of the IPL with a fractured knee. He is expected to be out for four to five weeks. The injury occured when Cooper was fielding on the boundary in the game against Delhi Daredevils on April 29 - he leapt full length to take a catch and fell badly on his knee. The resultant effect saw him fracturing his knee badly. Rahul Dravid, Royals' captain, said that losing Cooper is unfortunate for the team.

"He has come in as a young kid and performed exceptionally well and done some difficult jobs for us," Dravid said.

Cooper was proving to be a star for the Royals - in his debut game against Punjab, he picked up four wickets and slammed a first-ball six. He was also the leading wicket-taker for the Royals and had taken 10 wickets in his 6 games. With Cooper now ruled out of the IPL, it remains to be seen whether the Royals ask for a replacement player.

Azhar Mahmood to join Kings XI soon

Azhar Mahmood has finally got an Indian visa and would be joining Kings XI Punjab soon.Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who is now a British citizen, has finally got an Indian visa and would be joining his IPL team Kings XI Punjab soon, skipper Adam Gilchrist said.

"I have just been told that he has received a visa," Gilchrist, whose side beat Pune Warriors last night, told reporters.

Gilchrist, who is also the team's coach, said Mahmood (37) should be joining the side soon and "that would be nice".

On Wednesday when Gilchrist had been asked about the status of Mahmood, who was picked up by KXIP at this year's players' auction in joining the team, he had said, "It's up to the Government because he is not getting his visa at the moment.

"We bought a player we were told was available for every game and we are still unable to access our player. It's not in our hands."

Mahmood, who has featured in 21 Tests and 143 ODIs for Pakistan, was bought by KXIP for USD 200,000 but had not been able to play in the IPL as he had not been given the Indian visa.

Earlier, the team management had said Mahmood had himself taken a short break because of domestic reasons. The Punjab team are hoping to bolster their bowling and batting attack with Mahmood's presence as they are also without English pacer Stuart Broad, who has been ruled out because of injury.

If Mahmood plays for Punjab, he will be the only former Pakistani player to feature in this season's IPL.
