Fantastic knock by virat says Gayle

Bengaluru, Oct 7: In pursuit of 204 in the semi-final against the New South Wales Blues, the Royal Challengers Bangalore needed the burly Chris Gayle to fire on all cylinders. The Jamaican did just that. He blasted his way to a 41-ball 92 to set up a platform from where the rest of the batting line-up knocked off the required runs. Soon after Mohammad Kaif had hit the winning runs, Gayle spoke exclusively to www.clt20.com about the victory, his knock and the electric atmosphere at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

On his team's second win chasing over 200

[It was a] brilliant win… superb team effort. Chasing a total like 200, which isn't easy, we stuck to the task. I have to commend Virat [Kohli] for the way he batted - not only for the runs he actually got - but to actually take us right to the end. Well done to Virat and to all RCB. [We have] just one more match to go, and hopefully we'll push for that one match. We've been in a final already, and hopefully we'll get past it this time.

On the atmosphere in the Chinnaswamy Stadium

[It is] superb. I cannot complain one bit. It has been fantastic… been a great atmosphere here, good hospitality. I am glad the fans enjoy themselves - I'm really happy for them. Unfortunately the final will be [played] in Chennai, but wherever we go, we'll still have to win.

On whether he regrets missing out on a hundred

I don't. I'm glad about the victory and that's most important to me. I am sure it will come when it is time. I'm really happy with this win. Hopefully we can go further [from here on].

On hitting some huge sixes

I hope no one gets hurt. It was a very entertaining game. [David] Warner started it and we finished it off.

On the team's preferred opponent in the Nokia CLT20 final - Mumbai Indians or Somerset

Both are good teams. It is going to be a huge game tomorrow. It doesn't matter who [the opposition is], we just have to play good cricket.
