Indian team for tri-series announced;Sachin in;no Yuvraj and Harbhajan
The Indian selectors have called up Sachin Tendulkar to the ODI side to face Australia and Sri Lanka. Irfan Pathan was also given a call up while Praveen Kumar recovered in time to be named in the squad. The selection was on expected lines with middle order batsmen Suresh Raina, Manoj Tiwary and Ravindra Jadeja called up fight for a spot alongside Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir.
Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag will most likely open the batting in the tri-series that also involves Sri Lanka.
There was no spot for young Mumbaikar Ajinkya Rahane with Manoj Tiwary getting the nod. Parthiv Patel got another chance to prove himself and was included as the back up keeper. Irfan Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja are the 2 all-rounders in the 17 man squad
Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Sharma are the only specialist spinners in the team but the Tamil Nadu offie is likely to get the nod, at least initially.
The pace attack will be severely boosted by the inclusion of Zaheer Khan in the team, who like Sachin will be playing his first ODI since April 2 when India won the World Cup in Mumbai. The other pacers in the side are Vinay Kumar, Unesh Yadav and Praveen Kumar who missed out on making the Test squad due to an injury.
There was no place for Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh in the side.
