CL T20 squads: players pick IPL teams
The squads of all the 12 teams that will participate in this year's edition of the T20 Cricket League tournament were released today. All 9 players who had the choice of playing for 2 teams - their home team or IPL franchise - have decided to go with their IPL sides, once again re-iterating the dominance of the Indian league. Mahela Jayawardene was named as the captain of the Delhi Daredevils, although the squad featured Virender Sehwag.
"The fourth edition of the Champions League Twenty20 is only a few weeks away. The squads that will be playing in the tournament speak for themselves. They comprise the finest cricketing talent on this planet. We are in for some extraordinary cricket, in what will surely be a thriller of a competition," N Srinivasan, Chairman of the CLT20 Governing council, was quoted as saying in the tournament's official website.
Dean Kino, a member of the Governing council and Director of Legal and Business Affairs, said "According to CLT20 rules, if a player qualifies for more than one team, all those qualifying teams can nominate that player. When a player decides to play for an 'away' team rather than his 'home' team, the team from the country he is eligible to represent in international cricket, the 'away' team must pay US$150,000 compensation to the 'home' team."
