ICC suspends umpires caught in fixing web
The International Cricket Council has decided to suspend the six umpires who were allegedly caught red-handed willing to fix matches until the investigations are completed.
The ICC sent out a media release stating that the six umpires will be prohibited from officiating in any domestic or international matches until the investigations are completed.
The ICC said: The International Cricket Council (ICC) and its relevant Full Member Boards have agreed not to appoint any of the umpires named in a sting operation recently conducted by India TV to any domestic or international cricket matches pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations into the allegations made. The officials named are not contracted by the ICC and those Boards who employ and nominate the umpires directly will conduct the investigations as a matter of urgency.
An India TV expose had claimed that they caught umpires who were ready to expose several first-class umpires from three countries who were allegedly willing to fix matches and provide inside information on players for money.
The six umpires who were purportedly shown in the sting are Nadeem Ghauri and Anees Siddiqui of Pakistan, Nadir Shah of Bangladesh, and Gamini Dissanayake, Maurice Winston and Sagara Gallage of Sri Lanka.
The Channel showed visuals of its undercover reporters with the umpires, some of whom are purportedly making promises to give favourable decisions in lieu of financial benefits.
