Ryder could return to play Caribbean Premier League

New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder who has returned home after a stint at the hospital following the brutal assault on him, is set to return to cricket in the month of July. Ryder will not be making any late appearances in the ongoing Indian T20 League.

Ryder has a 308,000 NZ dollar-deal with the Delhi team in the Indian T20 League but he is unlikely to get paid unless he is available for the competition which will run till May 26. Also, he will be ineligible for the Champions League should Delhi qualify, if he continues to absent himself from the tournament.

Although he is slowly recovering from his injuries, Ryder's manager Aaron Klee said that he is still very weak and needs some more time to recover. He mentioned that it may take another couple of months for Ryder to get back on his feet again. "He still very weak and can't do a lot. It will take about two to three months before he is ticking over properly," Klee informed.

Ryder was kept in an induced coma after suffering head and lung injuries in an attack outside a Christchurch bar last month.

The New Zealand Herald has reported that Ryder had been approached by Caribbean Premier League (CPL) officials before the assault and might be fit for the tournament in July. The CPL is likely to feature a few cricketing stars including Ross Taylor and it is scheduled to take place during the international break for New Zealand. This will not disrupt the involvement of the national team since they tour Bangladesh only in October.
