MATCH REPORT: M11 - MI VS COB

Bengaluru, Sep 30: The Mumbai Indians' Group A encounter against Cape Cobras in the Nokia CLT20 was abandoned due to rain. This after Mumbai Indians batted first and posted a mammoth score of 176.
M11, GROUP A, FRIDAY 30 SEPTEMBER
The story of the MI innings was about a couple of special knocks - one from star player and another from a Nokia CLT20 debutant. After being put into bat by Justin Kemp, MI had the perfect start with Sarul Kanwar hitting a feisty 21-ball 45 on his debut. Kanwar, who opens for Punjab, smashed five sixes and three fours in his innings which also saw the 23-year-old hit JP Duminy for 17 runs in the fifth over.
Mumbai crossed the 50-run mark in five overs shortly after which both Kanwar and fellow opener, Aiden Blizzard (19), were dismissed by Robin Peterson. MI's hero from their game against Trinidad & Tobago, Ambati Rayudu (6), followed soon after when he gave Owais Shah his third catch of the innings off JP Duminy.
Rayudu's wicket brought Pollard to the centre with MI's score reading 75-3 in 9.2 overs. The burly Caribbean immediately went into top gear as he swatted the fourth and sixth delivery he faced for sixes. Once again the hapless bowler in question was Duminy.
Pollard continued his assault on the Cobras by hitting Langeveldt for 18 in the 16th over. He brought up his half-century in just 34 deliveries. By the time he was dismissed by Dale Steyn (caught at long-off by Owais Shah), MI were well on their way to a 170-plus score.
However, with the rain coming down heavily towards the end of the MI innings, the match was abandoned.
With both teams splitting points, MI retain pole position in Group A while the Cobras continue to hold on to the second spot.
Brief score: Mumbai Indians 176 for 5 in 20 overs (Kieron Pollard 58, Sarul Kanwar 45, Robin Peterson 2-29).
