MIDDLE OVERS BATTING A CONCERN: BOLLINGER

Chennai, Sep 30: Doug Bollinger’s inimitable sense of humour was on display as he interacted with the media ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Trinidad &Tobago on October 2.

The CSK fast bowler spoke about the new Chepauk track, the prospect against his state team, NSW Blues, and even spoke self-effacingly about his lighter side. Excerpts below.
On whether batting in the middle overs was a concern for CSK
Definitely, but it was a good game to win [against Cape Cobras] and you want to win such tight games. I’d love to win every game by 50 runs but that’s not going to happen. Yes, we got out of jail but all the players are coming from a different space – the Indians have been away for a long time – and we’ve just started to gel together as a team. It’s an area to work on but as long as we win, it doesn’t really matter.
On the re-laid Chepauk track
It’s pretty slow compared to the previous one. I liked the older wicket because it was faster and the ball went through. But it doesn’t really bother me; the job has to be done anyway. I haven’t really changed my bowling tactics much; [I] just have to mix up the pace a bit more now. This wicket is probably more conducive to spin bowling and if you bowl fast, you’ll be hit.
On whether he’ll give a lot of inputs to CSK on his state team, NSW Blues
I’ll bring to the table as much as I can. It’s going to be interesting playing against them. They’re a good team and any information about them will be good information. In the end, we just need to worry about ourselves and go from there.
On whether he was the funniest man in the CSK change room
I thought I was a pretty quiet person (laughs). No, I do have a good time and if everyone else is having a good time too, it’s nice. There are a couple of other characters in the CSK team – Murali Vijay is pretty funny. I just say some stuff which comes out wrong and people laugh.
